In its 32nd year, the
John Karsten Tip-Off Clinic boasts a truly impressive lineup of
coaches – Lorenzo Romar from the University of
Washington; Brian Katz of Sacramento State; Dan
Monson of Long Beach State; Frank Allocco of
De LaSalle High School; and Sue Phillips of Mitty
High School.
Each coach will present his or her topic on
the court with live demonstrations, and all clinic attendees
will receive a coaches’ notebook, barbequed lunch and hosted reception
following the day’s events.

This year, we've added
an exciting new feature! Throughout the day, five
top local coaches will each have 10 minutes to show you
their best special situation play. Be sure to pay
attention to these game-breaking plays from some of the
most successful local minds in the game!

In 2006, the name of the
"Tip-Off Clinic" was changed to the "John Karsten Tip-Off Clinic"
to pay tribute to Coach Karsten, who began this clinic 31 years
ago! Coach Karsten was the head coach at American River College in
Sacramento for many years until his retirement, and remains one of
the region's most respected and well-liked coaches. He still
enjoys helping to plan the annual clinic and keeping up with the
many successes of all his former players and assistant coaches!
